An image purports to show former Representative Liz Cheney making a controversial statement on X, previously known as Twitter, where she allegedly referred to former President Donald Trump as a “junkyard hog” and President Joe Biden as “the older guy.

The post reportedly states: On July 17, a post on Threads circulated an image that seemingly displays a post by Liz Cheney on X.

The screenshot reads “Let’s be clear, if you don’t want to live the next 20 years under the rule of the Redneck SS being led by an insecure junkyard hog you’re going to have to vote for the older guy.”

Within less than a week, this Threads post garnered significant attention, being shared over 1,000 times.

The image under scrutiny is fabricated. Liz Cheney did not author the post, and several obvious indicators, such as a misspelled name and an illogical date, reveal its inauthenticity. The earliest version of this image included a parody label, further substantiating its falsehood.

The account ‘Liz_Choney’ is fake – neither the account nor the post exists.

The alleged screenshot mentions former President Donald Trump as the “junkyard hog” and President Joe Biden as “the older guy.” Although Cheney, a former Republican Representative from Wyoming, has been an outspoken critic of Trump and served as the vice chair on the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack, the post attributed to her is entirely bogus.

One glaring sign of its falseness is the X username in the screenshot, @Liz_Choney, which is a misspelling of Cheney’s actual name. Her correct handle is @Liz_Cheney. A search on X reveals no account named @Liz_Choney.

Additionally, the screenshot in the Threads post is cropped. The earliest known version of this post, originating from an X account named @FaithRubPol, includes the word “parody” at the bottom. This version also shows the date as “Feb. 116,” another clear indication of its inauthenticity.

The @FaithRubPol account’s bio explicitly states that most images shared are parodies. While it remains uncertain if this account originally created the “Liz Choney” image, it is evident that the image was intended as satire.

This scenario is a prime example of “stolen satire,” where images initially created and labeled as satire are captured and reposted to appear as legitimate news. Consequently, readers of these secondary posts are misled, as was the case here.
